Meet Dr. Richard M. Holmes - Respected, Professional, Thoughtful Practitioner

>Dr. Richard M. Holmes is a caring, compassionate, and highly dedicated dentist. As a leading cosmetic dentist in the Indian Trails area, near Charlotte, North Carolina, Dr. Holmes takes his responsibility to his patients and community very seriously. He takes pride in placing his patients' care and welfare above all else.

Dr. Holmes received his Doctor of Dental Medicine from Fairleigh S. Dickinson School of Dentistry, New Jersey, in 1980. He practiced in New Jersey until relocating to North Carolina in 1989.

In keeping with his dedication to continuing education, Dr. Holmes has completed numerous courses in family dentistry, crown and bridge work, restorative dentistry, cosmetic dentistry, dental occlusion, endodontic (root canal) therapy, and oral surgery. As a member of the Dental Organization for Conscious Sedation, Dr. Holmes was trained in the management of patient anxiety, as well as complex oral sedation. Dr. Holmes completed a residency at the University of Alabama, Birmingham, for advanced training in intravenous (IV) sedation. He is certified in oral and intravenous conscious sedation by the North Carolina Board of Dental Examiners and the American Dental Society of Anesthesiology, College of Conscious Sedation.

Dr. Richard M. Holmes lives in Charlotte with Deborah and their three children, Allyson, Michael, and Harrison. Outside of his busy dental practice, Dr. Holmes enjoys scuba diving, skiing, golf, and any activity he can enjoy with his family.

Dr. Holmes' skill and expertise in dentistry are complemented by his extensive training in patient anxiety management. Combine these qualities with Dr. Holmes' communicative and pleasant manner, and you have the formula for a first-class dentist - Dr. Richard M. Holmes.

Meet The Staff

Kim Barnett

Kim Barnett has been a dental hygienist since 1986. She has been working at Indian Trail Sedation Dental Center for four years. She graduated from Independence High School and Central Piedmont Community College with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science. She is licensed in both North and South Carolina in dental hygiene.

Kim and her husband Greg have two daughters, Brittany and Sarah Ashley. Her hobbies include running, coaching cheerleaders, and attending soccer, football, and basketball games. She is a very active member of her church and enjoys spending time with family and friends. She is also an animal lover and has one dog and three cats.

Diane Jones

Diane Jones has been working as part of Dr. Holmes’ friendly front desk staff since October, 1994. She has been in dentistry in some form or other since she graduated from high school. She was raised in Charlotte but has lived in Union County for over 20 years. She has a daughter who she is very proud of and she now has a young grandson.

Karen V. Ledford

Karen V. Ledford is a registered dental hygienist and has been working with cosmetic dentist Dr. Richard M. Holmes since 1994. Although not a native of North Carolina, she grew up in the Charlotte area. She graduated from Olympic High School and then from Central Piedmont Community College, subsequently receiving her Associate of Applied Science degree in Dental Hygiene. She is a member of the American Dental Hygienists’ Association, the North Carolina Dental Hygiene Association, the Charlotte Metrolina Dental Hygiene Society, and the North Carolina Academy of Advanced Studies. She served as secretary for NCDHA for two terms and served as secretary treasurer for CMDHS for three terms. She is currently licensed in both North Carolina and South Carolina.

Karen lives in Charlotte with her husband Mark and their two boys, Greyson and Camden. The majority of her free time is spent raising her children and enjoying her family.

Marianne Shoup

Marianne Shoup is originally from Indian Trail and graduated from Sun Valley High School In 1993. She has worked with Dr. Holmes since 1995, when she started as a dental assistant. She furthered her education in 1996 and became a registered dental hygienist. Marianne graduated in 1998 from CPCC with an Associate’s Degree in Applied Science in Dental Hygiene.

Outside of work, Marianne enjoys traveling, horseback riding and spending time with her husband and their three dogs.

Becky Slaughter

Becky Slaughter is from Liberty, West Virginia. She graduated from high school in 1993 and moved to North Carolina in 1998. Becky has been working for Dr. Holmes as a dental assistant.

Becky has two children Ashley and Tanner. In her free time she likes to hike in the mountains with her husband and children.

"I trained in sedation dental care in Charleston, South Carolina and have been assisting Dr. Holmes in sedation dentistry for more than a year."
